Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
In the midst of Hunger and Homelessness, what can friendship do?
Hamilton is facing a housing crisis that is only made worse by food insecurity. Going through this uncertainty in isolation is devastating. You don’t know where to go to for help and can’t get access to the resources you need to move forward in your life.
What can friendship do in this critical situation?
Can it house people?
Can it give someone food?
At Helping Hands, we’ve seen it do just that.
Friendship shares resources so that friends can survive their day. Sometimes that has meant telling others where the closest food bank is and walking over together. Or telling each other what social services will help you find housing.
Friendship gives emotional support and stability during a crisis so that no one feels alone in what they’re going through. Friends listen during the hurt and difficulties at come with housing and food insecurity. Sometimes we’ve cried together, other times we’ve laughed together.
This Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, you can see what friendship can do by donating to Helping Hands. You can directly provide friendship-based support to people facing hunger and homelessness. Donate today!
